Songkran 2021
Avril 2021. Difficile de faire comprendre (mais une recherche avec le mot en mode image dans n'importe quel moteur de recherche y aide) combien sont débridées les célébrations de Songkran... ce qui n'est pas du goût des tenants de l'arrière-garde traditionnaliste. Cette année-là, ils ont dû être contents : risque sanitaire oblige, toute festivité était interdite, les jardins publics clos, l'ordre social garanti, les comportements conformes à l'obséquiosité et aux génuflexions ostentatoires qui servent de repères politiques. L'incorrection, la fantaisie, le carnaval, on arrivait quand même à les imaginer dans les murs, sous les rayons incandescents d'avril.
April 2021. It's hard to convey just how uninhibited Songkran celebrations can get — though an image search of the word in any search engine goes a long way. Which is precisely what the traditionalist rearguard has never appreciated. That year, they must have been pleased: on public health grounds, all festivities were banned, public gardens closed, social order guaranteed, behaviour confined to the ostentatious bowing and scraping that passes for political virtue here. Irreverence, fantasy, carnival — you could still conjure them, somehow, within these walls, beneath April's incandescent rays.
